JAMIE MITCHELL

“Jamie is one of the greatest unknown sportsmen of all time. Ten years he has won the Molokai channel paddle race … his winning percentage is higher than anyone in any sport ever.”
— Kelly Slater, 11x World Surfing Champion

Jamie Mitchell has carved his name into sporting history with an unmatched drive to conquer the world’s wildest ocean swells. Known as a true Renaissance Waterman, the Australian-born athlete now based on the North Shore of Hawaii has earned his place among the world’s elite by continually redefining the limits of human potential.

A 10-time winner of the prestigious Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard World Championships, Jamie is recognized as one of the most dominant endurance athletes alive. The grueling 32-mile (52 km) Kaiwi Channel demands everything, physical strength, mental resilience, and the ability to face punishing swells, scorching sun, and relentless currents. To simply finish is an achievement; to win ten consecutive times is the mark of a legend.

Beyond Molokai, Jamie has proven himself in the heaviest surf on the planet, paddling into waves that most wouldn’t dare approach. His ability to merge endurance, courage, and precision has made him not only a champion but also an icon of ocean performance.

Fearless in the face of giants, Jamie Mitchell has earned his place among the world’s elite big wave riders. A ten-time invitee to the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, competitor at the WSL Peahi (Jaws) Challenge, and the WSL Nazaré Tow-In Challenge, Jamie has consistently proven himself on surfing’s heaviest stages. He was nominated for Billabong’s XXL Awards for a massive wave at Maverick’s, and went on to claim the Biggest Paddle-In Wave of the Year.

In 2014, Jamie made international headlines during the infamous Hercules Swell in Belharra, France, the largest storm to hit Europe in 20 years, where his courage in extreme conditions captured global media attention.

Never confined to a single discipline, Jamie has mastered nearly every craft the ocean offers: tow-in surfing, SUP, foilboarding, canoe surfing, and traditional paddle-in. His depth of skill earned him membership in the exclusive 30/20 Club, a circle of elite watermen who have both paddled 30+ miles across open ocean and ridden 20-foot-plus waves unassisted.

Respected by legends like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Trevor Hendy, and Brian Keaulana, Jamie is admired not only for his accomplishments, but for his relentless spirit of adventure. He continues to chase swells across the globe, seeking out untapped surf spots and answering the call of the next epic wave.

Beyond competition, Jamie is dedicated to giving back. In 2013 he helped launch the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, supporting water safety worldwide. In 2019 he created the Seven Crossings Project, paddling 170 miles through California’s Channel Islands to raise awareness for ocean sustainability with the Wrigley Institute. With a second series now underway, Jamie continues to merge sport with purpose.

For Jamie, the ocean is everything: best friend, teacher, challenger, and home. Through a life dedicated to its power and beauty, he has carved a unique place in global surf culture, one he intends to carry forward for years to come.
